4Very nice starter set, but beware of picky babies  Aug 10, 2011 By Alexis Coxon
This is a really nice starter set for someone who plans to bottlefeed. The bottles are well-made and BPA free, and they don't leak. You also get a very nice brush (very soft, so it doesn't scratch the plastic), a snack/formula powder cup, a handle and top to transform the bottles into sippy cups later, and a pacifier. With their wide mouths, these bottles are easy to wash, and I also think a wider nipple helps prevent nipple confusion in breast-fed babies. (This is just anecdotal, but it's held true for me with my kids.) I wasn't wild about the pacifier, as it was a bit too heavy for my daughter to easily keep in her mouth; she seems to like the MAM Start Orthodontic Silicone Pacifier best. Then again, she's only 4 1/2 weeks old, so the same may not be true of an older baby!

However, I generally recommend that (at least for babies who are breastfeeding), you buy just one bottle at a time and see how your baby likes it, and then buy a set later if your baby is amenable, because two of my three have been very particular about what kind of bottles they'll take. My daughter (who has just started using a bottle) doesn't seem wild about the Avent bottles. She seems to much prefer the Playtex Drop-Ins. I don't know if she prefers the Playtex nipple (it wasn't interchangeable with the Avent bottles) or if she prefers something about the drop-in liner.

Incidentally, if you have a non-Avent breast pump (like the Medela Pump in Style and store your milk in bottles, you'll have to pump into a different, narrow bottle and then transfer the milk into -these- bottles, or else purchase an adapter, like the Philips Avent Standard Breast Pump Conversion Kit.

5Great Bottles  Apr 25, 2011 By Grace G.
My daughter (now 7 months old) has been using these bottles since she was born, and we've never had any problems with them. We've always washed them by hand, and have only had the occasional leaking issue, usually caused by the coupler being on too tight.

5Great Starter Set  Jul 10, 2011 By kdea473
We have used several of the individual components from this set for quite awhile, including the Philips AVENT BPA-Free Bottle Brush and Philips AVENT Formula BPA-Free Dispenser/Snack Cup. I have seen the bottles in the store, but have always been partial to the Playtex BPA Free Drop-Ins Premium Decorated Nurser 4 oz - 3 Pack (Colors Vary). Having now tried the AVENT bottles, however, I am very impressed with them.

I appreciate that the bottles are BPA-free, as we have been working to eliminate sources of BPA in our household for a couple of years now. I also liked the physical size (diameter) of the bottles. The clear nipples are great, as I had no question whether they were clean.

We do not have a dishwasher, so all washing has been by hand (easy with the large bottle opening) and everything has held up well. This set is a good way to try out the AVENT system, and contains a nice selection of items.

3Better for strictly bottle fed babies.  Jul 13, 2011 By N. Glenn "Glenn."
I was excited to try these bottles on my 5 month old, seeing the nipples differ from normal bottles I thought he would take to these, but he did not. Being a breast fed baby he has only use a bottle a handful of times but I could not get him to drink out of these.

My sisters baby liked these bottles well enough, she was able to eat without leaks and hold the bottle herself. It did come in handy that the starter kit came with the formula container and bottle brush. I think it is a good deal and would consider getting this for a baby shower gift.
